This week is UK Construction Week, and for the second year, UKCW is running the Role Models initiative.  The recruitment of talented individuals into the construction industry is vital, and UKCW Role Models takes the most inspiring people working across the industry and helps to tell their story in an effort to inspire others to join.  MiTek are extremely proud that Omar Thoqir, Assistant Product Owner in our European Software team, has been shortlisted as a 2019 Role Model.

At MiTek Omar plays a key role in the development of our revolutionary PAMIR roof truss and Posi-Joist (metal web joist) design software, whilst continuing his studies part time studying for an MSc in Civil and Structural Engineering.

Omar is passionate about our industry and encouraging young people to get involved commenting; “I have been attending the UK Construction Week events ever since I was in University studying for a BEng Structural Engineering with Architecture, with the aim of networking, meeting future employers, seeing new innovations, and generally see what the construction industry is doing.  Last year the UKCW held an initiative of ‘Role model – 2019’ which I found interesting and still being very early in my career but having worked for some large companies (Simpson Strong-Tie, Wolf Systems and now MiTek), I feel I can offer young people (students) who are thinking about joining the industry some advice, lessons I have learnt, things to do/not to do, etc… So I put my name forward for this year’s shortlist”

You can read Omar’s bio detailing his impressive career to date, and see other shortlisted Role Models, on the UKCW website here.

Omar will be attending UK Construction Week at the NEC, focusing most of his time on the careers advice centre where he will be available to talk one to one with students or career changers , and offer insights and advice based on his own experience of the construction industry.  There will be awards presented on Wednesday 9th October to those selected as UKCW Role Models of the year.

Well done Omar!
