MiTek is proud to have played a role in the transformation of Cherry Trees Youth Club in Beverley, Hull, as part of the latest DIY SOS build, aired on BBC One.
Working alongside local tradespeople — including our partner DWB Timber Engineering — the team helped construct a brand-new youth centre designed to support more than 90 young people every week.
Speaking after the build, MiTek’s Jimmy Close, said:
“It was such a privilege to be involved. We work with these systems every day, but we don’t usually get to install them ourselves, that’s normally down to the brilliant trades on site. Being hands-on with a MiTek system was a rare opportunity and doing it for a project that will mean so much to so many young people made it even more special.”
A new home is just 8 days
Our Design Engagement team designed the Posi floor cassette, while DWB installed it, and after 8 days of intense, round-the clock work, Cherry Trees Youth Club rose from the ground up. The offsite floor system played a critical role in the fast-paced build, enabling rapid progress without compromising on strength or quality. Despite the pace, the site became a place of learning as well as construction. Young people were invited to observe the work firsthand, with trades teams demonstrating tools, techniques and processes throughout the week, offering valuable experience and inspiration for future careers.
A vital community resource reborn
Cherry Trees Youth Club had been operating from a small pop-up tent since losing its premises during the Covid pandemic. The lack of a permanent building left the charity without a safe, warm space to provide meals, support and somewhere to belong for local young people.
The new centre changes that. It will provide stability, safety and connection for hundreds, potentially thousands, of young people in the years ahead. Behind the scenes, the atmosphere reflected everything DIY SOS is known for: pressure, teamwork, laughter and powerful moments of community spirit. Volunteers, trades and partners came together with a shared determination to deliver a life-changing space for the Beverley community.
