MiTek is delighted to announce that together with Pasquill we have been shortlisted in the Offsite Construction Awards, recognising our work on the 2022 Serpentine Pavilion Black Chapel.

Featured as a finalist in the ‘Best use of timber technology’ category, Black Chapel, designed by Theaster Gates is an impressive collaborative project created in partnership with MiTek and Pasquill forging our expertise in timber engineering design and manufacturing. We’re both very proud of this project, and it’s fantastic to see it recognised in the Offsite Construction Awards.

Posi-Joists created the superstructure (walls and roof) of the Pavilion, and were painted black to fit Gate’s industrial vision, which pays homage to the great kilns of Stoke-on-Trent. Using timber as the primary building material allowed for quicker installation, and improved sustainability.

The structure is predominately made of wood, with Posi-Joists featuring as the main structural and aesthetic features inside the building, where the steel webs are fully exposed and on display.

Our partnership with Pasquill allowed us to push the limits on this project, combining our expertise to create a build that is truly remarkable. The Pavilion spans 10 metres high and required longer joists than we usually work with.  Careful consideration went into the overall stability, whilst simultaneously achieving aesthetic symmetry of the steel webs. The concept relies entirely on the sheathing and clever engineering using Posi-Joist.

The Offsite Construction Awards will return to the Coventry Building Society Arena on the 19th September 2023. There are 23 innovative categories that cover every aspect of the industry. We’re delighted to see Saint Gobain Off-Site Solutions shortlisted for the ‘Best use of hybrid technology category’ on the landmark eHome2 project at Energy House – another fantastic project featuring Posi-Joist.
